How we work

Our process

We plan and deliver projects in stages. You can review the work and decide whether to continue at the end of each stage. Everything completed and paid for up to that point belongs to you.

Discovery is paid, fixed price, and yours to keep

Most firms scope for free and recover the cost in the build, which gives them a reason to win the work rather than to tell you the truth about it. We charge a fixed price for discovery and hand you a written specification you own outright, including the right to take it to another developer and have them quote against it.

If the specification says custom software is not worth it for you, that is a useful answer and you have paid a small amount to get it.

Discovery is $2,500, fixed price, and takes two weeks.

Discovery and scope

We meet with the people who use the current process and document how the work is really being done. You receive a written specification, a delivery plan and a fixed price for the first build stage.

You provide: Access to your team for two to three sessions, and samples of your current spreadsheets and reports.
Duration: Two weeks
You receive: A written specification, a phased delivery plan, and a fixed price for stage one.

Design and prototype

We create a working prototype of the main screens and review it with your team. This gives people a chance to test the proposed workflow before development begins.

You provide: Two or three staff for review sessions.
Duration: Two to three weeks
You receive: A clickable prototype and a signed off screen design.

Build in phases

The project is divided into useful stages, usually based on a department or part of the workflow. Each stage is tested, delivered and paid for separately.

You provide: A nominated project contact and data for migration.
Duration: Four to eight weeks per phase
You receive: A working system in production at the end of every phase.

Go live and training

We migrate your data, train staff using their real day-to-day tasks and stay available while everyone becomes familiar with the new system.

You provide: A cut over date and staff availability for training.
Duration: One to two weeks
You receive: Migrated data, trained staff, written documentation and a warranty period.

Support and improve

After launch, we can continue to support the system and add improvements as your business changes. Support commitments are published and changes are quoted before work begins.

You provide: Whatever comes up.
Duration: For as long as it suits you
You receive: A named developer who knows your system, and monthly reporting.

Where we use AI, and where we do not

You are entitled to ask, so we will say it plainly rather than wait to be asked.

We use AI tooling to speed up routine coding, test writing and documentation.
Every line of output is reviewed by a senior developer before it reaches your system.
We do not deliver anything we do not understand and could not maintain by hand.
Your data, your documents and your business rules are not used to train any model.
Client information is not entered into public AI tools.
Where it saves time, that saving shows up in your quote rather than in our margin.
